DC Health Waives Public Health CME Requirement August 27, 2020
Written by MSDC Staff
This week, DC Health waived the new requirement that physicians renewing their license in 2020 include proof of five hours of CME from the public health priority list.
Physicians renewing their license this year are now only required to submit proof of two (2) hours of CME on LGBTQ cultural competency and one course on pharmacology.
DC Health had published regulations earlier this year removing the previous requirement for three (3) hours of HIV/AIDS education and replaced it with a requirement that health professionals obtain 10% of their required hours from topics on a public health priority list established by DC Health. The list of topics were medical topics deemed to be timely for health professionals, and included issues like implicit bias, sexual health, ethics, and emergency preparations. For physicians, five (5) hours would be from that list of topics (see list here).
To help answer questions about this development and the licensure process, MSDC has created two resources:
- Our DC physician licensure page, updated with the latest information on DC renewals for 2020
- Our September 16, 2020 webinar featuring the Chair of the DC Board of Medicine Andrea Anderson, MD, FAAFP and Executive Director of the Board of Medicine Frank Meyers, JD
