MSDC Leads AMA Charge on Private Practice Reimbursement June 15, 2023
Written by MSDC Staff
The MSDC delegation to the American Medical Association House of Delegates returns home with a big win for all private practices.
MSDC introduced a resolution instructing the AMA to study reimbursement rates for small and medium medical practices, and report back on model legislation and other reliefs for practices facing reimbursement pressures from private payers. The resolution comes as small and mid-size local practices face increasing financial pressure as they lack bargaining power with insurers that large multi-state practices and hospital systems have.
In addition to this resolution, MSDC took center stage again with the announcement that MSDC Treasurer Dr. Raymond Tu will run for a position on the Council for Science and Public Health in 2024.
Other meeting highlights of interest to DC physicians include:
- AMA's announcement of a campaign to permanently fix the Medicare payment structure.
- AMA launching "AMA's Recovery Plan for America's Physicians"
- The inauguration of Dr. Jesse Ehrenfeld as the new AMA president. Dr. Ehrenfeld attended MSDC's Capital Healthcare Honors this spring. MSDC President Dr. Susanne Bathgate represented the Society at the event.
