MSDC Hits It Out of the Park at 2024 Annual Meeting November 2, 2024
Written by MSDC Staff
MSDC members, guests, and DC leaders gathered at Nationals Park on Friday to celebrate the Society's annual meeting of members. The highlight of the event was the inauguration of Dock Winston, MD, as the Society's 160th president.
This is the first MSDC annual meeting held at a baseball stadium, and the venue was perfect for casual conversation and serious business discussions. This year's annual meeting also debuted the Capital Healthcare Future Forum to begin a conversation on the future of DC area care.
At the business meeting, Dr. Winston laid out a clear vision for the Society based on engagement for physicians at all stages of career. "Leadership is not just a title; it is a mindset," he said during his speech. "As physicians, we are caregivers, advocates, innovators, and educators. This year, I am committed to fostering a culture of leadership development that empowers every physician to take active roles within their practices and the broader community."
Prior to Dr. Winston's inauguration, Dr. Ashesh Patel gave his president's address. In it he highlighted a busy year in advocacy, including MSDC's work in reforming prior authorization, preventing scope creep, and improving public health law in the District. Dr. Patel leaves his presidency with MSDC membership the highest it has been in decades due to a focus on innovation and reaching members where they are.
The business meeting began with special remarks from trustee of the American Medical Association Dr. Ilse Levin. Dr. Levin, a MAPMG physician during the day, gave congratulatory remarks from the AMA and promoted the two organizations' shared advocacy priorities.
The Capital Healthcare Future Forum featured an all-star lineup of healthcare experts discussing what they see coming in DC area care. Sponsored by CareFirst, the panel discussed health disparities, health tech, and continuum of care across the DC area.
Before the business meeting, attendees mixed and mingled in the Kennedy Room of Nationals Park. Surrounded by glass, food, and beverage, attendees met with colleagues and learned from sponsors.
More information, pictures, and details about this event will be shared in the coming days.
