Early career physicians and medical students are the future of medicine and they have unique needs, interests and challenges. Early Career Physicians (ECP) is a section dedicated to early career
physicians and medical students.
Purpose: support the development of the early career physician and physicians in training as advocates for the betterment of public health through education, networking, leadership development and programming surrounding the unique needs of the early career physician

Certificate of Meritorious Service (in recognition of distinguished service to the medical profession). Lisa Boyle, MD, of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital, will receive the Meritorious Service Award in recognition of her exceptional leadership during the COVID-19 pandemic and her continued strategic leadership of the medical staff.
Lisa Boyle, MD, FACS serves as President of MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and Senior Vice President, MedStar Health. Dr. Boyle is a board-certified surgeon specializing in thyroid and parathyroid surgeries. Prior to her role as President, Dr. Boyle served for 10 years as the hospital's vice president of medical affairs and chief medical officer, overseeing physicians, medical affairs, and the hospital’s quality and safety functions.
Before coming to MedStar Georgetown, Dr. Boyle served for 20 years at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, where she performed an average of 350 surgeries per year. Dr. Boyle was actively involved in teaching and mentoring the next generation of surgeons, serving as Assistant Professor of Surgery at the Georgetown University School of Medicine and the Residency Program Director at the MedStar Washington Hospital Center Department of Surgery. Dr. Boyle received her medical degree from the Georgetown University School of Medicine and completed her surgical residency at Harvard University School of Medicine Beth Israel Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She is an accomplished researcher and has authored several articles and presented on a variety of clinical topics across the country.
Dr. Boyle serves on the District of Columbia Hospital Association Board of Directors and is a member of the American College of Surgeons and the Alpha Omega Alpha Medical Honor Society.
The Meritorious Service Award is MSDC’s highest award and has been given out since the 1940s. Past recipients include Dr. Montague Cobb, Dr. Raymond Scalettar, Dr. Charles Epps, Dr. Greg Argyros, Dr. John Lynch, Dr. Daniel Lucey, Dr. Gigi
El-Bayoumi, and Dr. Daniel Marchalik, among others. The award is presented to a physician member in recognition of
distinguished service to the medical profession as a whole.
Distinguished Service Award (in recognition of distinguished service to the Medical Society). Michael Weinstein, MD, will be presented with the Distinguished Service Award for his outstanding leadership in private practice medicine throughout DC and Maryland, embodying the highest standards of medical care and community service.
Dr. Weinstein began his career in private practice gastroenterology in 1985. In addition to building a top-quality specialty practice, he led the development of one the first Ambulatory Endoscopy Centers in the United States, receiving a
District of Columbia Certificate of Need and then Medicare certification in 1986. His interest in the early addition of technology into medical practice includes adoption of video endoscopy in 1989, development of endowriter software
with cMore (ProVation) and gMed, and as a former AMA CPT Advisory Panel representative, aided Given Imaging, Medtronic, and Ethicon in requesting new CPT codes for technology innovations.
Encouraged by practice partners to get
involved in medical societies, Dr. Weinstein served as the Young Physician Delegate to the AMA Congress and then joined the MSDC Finance Committee, moving on to be MSDC Treasurer from 1988-1994. He has held positions on several national
society committees and served two terms as Clinical Councilor to the American Gastroenterology Association Governing Board in 2008 and 2020.
In 2009, he spearheaded the merger of 7 practices to form Capital Digestive
Care and recently retired after 8 years as CEO of a practice of 120 physicians and 40 Advanced Practice Providers in the Maryland, Virginia, and Washington, DC region. He has a special interest in independent physician advocacy and is
a founder and Past President of the Digestive Health Physician Association, and advocacy group of more than 100 member practices and 2,500 physicians.
Capital Digestive Care and Physicians Endoscopy launched PE Gastro Management
in 2019, a unique, physician-oriented management service organization aligned with the interests of gastroenterologists in independent practice. Dr. Weinstein continues to work with CDC on Corporate Compliance matters and with affiliated
ASCs in the region.
The Distinguished Service Award is presented to a physician member for outstanding service to the Medical Society of the District of Columbia. Past awardees include Dr. Dorothy Starr (1987), Dr. Ray Scalettar (1992), the Physician Health Program
(1999), Dr. Peter Lavine (2005), Dr. Roselyn E Epps (2019), and Dr. Raymond Tu (2024).

Dr. Charles H. Epps, III Community Service Award (in recognition of outstanding public service to the community) Keith Egan, DO, will be honored with the Charles H. Epps III Award for his groundbreaking work at MAPMG Pride Medicine, demonstrating exceptional commitment to inclusive and compassionate healthcare.
Dr. Keith Egan is a primary care provider in the Adult and Family Medicine Department at Kaiser Permanente’s Capitol Hill Medical Center in Washington, DC. He additionally serves as the Associate Medical Lead for Pride Medical at Capitol
Hill and the Kaiser Permanente’s Mid-Atlantic Region’s Gender Pathways program.
After graduating from Bates College, he spent three years working in public health focusing on HIV and STI outreach and research.
He went to medical school at the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine in Maine and did his residency training at The Wright Center’s National Network Family Medicine Residency Program based at Unity Health Care in
Washington, D.C. He is board certified in family medicine and is certified in gender affirming care by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. His interests include health equity, HIV primary care, and LGBTQ+ healthcare.
Dr. Egan has been voted a Top Doctor by Washingtonian Magazine, a top LGBTQ+ Doctor by Castle Connolly, and is a Washington Business Journal LGBTQ+ Business Award honoree.
This is presented to a physician member for outstanding public service to the DC community. Past recipients include Dr. Tamika Auguste, Dr. Collette Magnant, Dr. Kim Bullock, Dr. Jeff Akman, Dr. Janelle Goetcheus, Dr. Marvin Korengold, and other
DC medical luminaries. Previously known as the Community Service Award, the honor was renamed in 1997 after Dr. Epps, a 1994 honoree.

John Benjamin Nichols Award (in recognition of outstanding contributions toward improving the health of the community). LaQuandra Nesbitt, MD, will receive the John Benjamin Nichols Award for her pivotal role in leading the District's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and her continued dedication to advancing health equity at George Washington University.
LaQuandra S. Nesbitt, MD, MPH is a board-certified family physician with more than a decade of experience leading population health initiatives in governmental public health agencies. Most recently, she served as the director of DC Health and
led the District’s COVID-19 pandemic response. In this role, she mobilized organizations and community to implement innovative solutions to promote health and wellness and achieve health equity. She also served as the interim director
of the District’s Department of Behavioral Health. As a highly sought-after expert in population health and wellness, she has held leadership roles within major federal and local health care organizations, including the Centers for Disease
Control, among others.
She earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry from the University of Michigan, her Doctor of Medicine from Wayne State University School of Medicine, and a Master of Public Health in Health Care Management
and Policy from the Harvard School of Public Health. She completed an internship in family medicine at the University Hospitals of Cleveland/Case Western Reserve University and served as chief resident in the family medicine residency at the
University of Maryland and completed the Commonwealth Fund Harvard University Fellowship in Minority Health Policy.
The John Benjamin Nichols Award is presented in recognition of outstanding contributions toward improving the health of the community. The award has been given since 1953 and previous recipients include Dr. James Taylor, Sister Carol Keehan, Polly
Shackleton, and Congressman Joseph Himes.
Caretaker Medical is the inaugural recipient of a new award presented by the Healthy Physician Foundation and Institute for Technology in Health Care. Caretaker Medical is a digital health company based in Charlottesville, VA that is focused on
developing continuous patient monitoring platforms that improve outcomes, increase clinician productivity and maximize patient compliance and comfort.
