MSDC Hosts Councilmember and First Advocacy Forum
MSDC hosted its first advocacy forum in tandem with its first Washington Healthcare on Wednesday (WHOW) webinar this week.
MSDC was delighted to host new DC Councilmember Christina Henderson for its first WHOW of the year. Councilmember Henderson won the 2020 election for one of the District's at-large Council seats, replacing her former boss David Grosso.
The Councilmember outlined her healthcare priorities for the upcoming Council period. In part due to her own experiences, CM Henderson shared her intent to introduce legislation around maternal health access. In addition, she engaged in a discussion with attendees on healthcare in Wards 7 and 8, health professional loan repayment, and healthy food availability in grocery stores.
Following the Councilmember's talk, MSDC opened its first advocacy forum for members. An advocacy forum will be held each month following a webinar to allow MSDC members to ask leadership questions about the Society's advocacy work, suggest issues to follow, and learn more about how they can engage. Attendees at this advocacy forum focused on women's health issues and affordable prescription drug issues.
An announcement on the topic and date of February's advocacy event will be announced soon. You can learn more about MSDC's advocacy curriculum here.
