The Medical Society of DC commends MedStar Georgetown University Hospital for its recent recognition as a top cancer care program in the U.S.

MedStar Georgetown University Hospital was nationally ranked by U.S. News & World Report as one of the top 50 cancer programs for 2022-2023. It is the only nationally ranked cancer program in the Washington, D.C. region. This national ranking recognizes the outstanding clinical excellence provided by MedStar Georgetown University Hospital and the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center, the only comprehensive cancer center designated by the National Cancer Institute in Washington, D.C.

MedStar Georgetown also was recognized as “High Performing” in the following five specialty services: gastroenterology and GI surgery, geriatrics, neurology and neurosurgery, orthopaedics, and pulmonology and lung surgery. In addition, six procedures and conditions were ranked as “High Performing.” A “High Performing” designation means that MedStar Georgetown is in the top 10 percent of the thousands of hospitals across the country that were analyzed by U.S. News & World Report for each of those specialty services.

“MedStar Georgetown University Hospital has been a top care destination in DC for decades and it is appropriate that we are receiving national recognition for it,” said MSDC President and MedStar Georgetown physician Dr. Kirstiaan Nevin. “Institutions like the Georgetown Lombardi Comprehensive Cancer Center highlight why the District is a center for medical excellence – we lead the way in patient care and innovative treatment.”
